Need a hand?

Transcribbler is made by one person, and that same person answers the email. If something isn't working — or you just have a question — please get in touch.

[email protected]

I read every message and aim to reply within two business days. If you're reporting a problem, it helps enormously to include your macOS version, which Mac you have, and what you were doing when it happened.

Common questions

Where are my recordings and transcripts kept?

On your Mac, in Transcribbler's own folder in Application Support — and nowhere else. Nothing is uploaded to us, because there is no server to upload to.

Does it need an internet connection?

Only once, to download a speech model the first time. After that, transcription runs entirely on your Mac and works with the wifi off.

Why is it asking for microphone or Screen Recording permission?

Recording your microphone needs Microphone access. Capturing what's playing on your Mac needs Screen Recording — that's where macOS puts system audio, and there's no narrower permission available for it.

It's an alarming-sounding name, so to be exact: Transcribbler reads the audio stream only. It never captures, saves or sends an image of your screen.

You can review or change both in System Settings → Privacy & Security. If a permission was denied earlier, macOS won't ask again — you'll need to switch it on there yourself.

The live transcript looks rougher than the saved one.

That's expected. The live view is a fast preview so you can follow along as you speak. When you press stop, the recording is transcribed properly with the full model — the saved transcript is the accurate one.

Can I delete recordings but keep the text?

Yes. In Settings you can keep recordings, delete them the moment they've been transcribed, or have them expire after 30 days. The transcript stays either way.

How do I get my transcripts out?

Export any conversation as plain text, Markdown, PDF, RTF, CSV, subtitles (SRT/VTT), or a self-contained web page — one at a time or many at once. Your words are yours to take anywhere.

What does Premium include, and is it a subscription?

It is not a subscription — it's a one-time purchase. Recording, transcribing with any model, speaker labels, redaction, search and manual backup are free forever. Every transcription model is free — accuracy is never the thing you pay for. Premium unlocks batch transcription, every export format with custom templates, and scheduled automatic backups.

I bought Premium and it's not showing on my other Mac.

Open Settings and choose Restore Purchase, signed in with the same Apple ID. If you bought directly from this website instead, paste your license key in Settings to activate that Mac.

How do I request a refund?

Purchases made through the Mac App Store are refunded by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com — I can't issue those myself. If you bought directly from this website, email me within 14 days and I'll refund you in full, no questions asked. After 14 days I'll still read your email and use my judgement. Full detail in the terms.

What you need to run it

Privacy, in one line

Your audio never leaves your Mac. The optional AI features are off until you turn them on, and even then only transcript text is sent — to a provider you choose, with your own key. The full details are in the privacy policy.
